December 2nd. A whirlpool has opened up in the marsh.

The wave pattern created by the whilrpool is very complex.
December 3rd. Ice on Sphagnum moss at a rock cut near Old Hartford
Road.
Plants like this Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus) and
animals including Spring Peepers (Hyla crucifer, not shown)
have been fooled into activity by our unusually warm wet November
weather.
Strange to see so much green in December. This is the basal rosette
of Cuckoo-flower or Lady's Smock (Cardamine pratensis, in the
mustard family).
