The
beavers of Raymond Brook Marsh construct dams to hold back water;
that's common enough and easy to see. Less obvious is the culvert
they manage under the trail to channel water from the high
side to the low. But each fall a whirlpool appears in the marsh
at the entrance to one of these culverts from the railroad era. It remains open through
