Llanberis January 2005 |
The Snowdon Mountain Railway leads from the village of Llanberis to the summit of Snowdon. Not operating in winter, we followed a path beside it to reach Ceunant Mawr waterfall.
The paved path is not terribly steep, and is bordered by craggy, moss-covered trees and rocks.
Ceunant Mawr waterfall is magnificent - and this is only half of it!
The lower portion of the falls follows a rift in the rock. Click here to view a brief QuickTime movie of the falls.
From the falls, you can look across the valley to the remains of the huge Dinorwig slate quarries.
Above the falls, there are several footpaths to follow.

A style of stile. Stiles keep sheep in their fields (mostly) while permitting people easy crossing from field to field without the risk of gates left open.

Returning to town, we caught another view of the Snowdon Mountain Railway trestle. To learn more about Llanberis, visit the North Wales Tourism site's Snowdonia section and click the Llanberis link at the right.
