ROUNDTABLE
DISCUSSION TOPICS
We
use roundtable discussions to cover general company news updates
and topics that haven't made it onto the formal agenda. Often, roundtable
time provides some of the greatest value of our meetings. Among
the informal topics during this meeting's roundtables, we'll discuss:
- Bank
of Montreal, Gina Jeneroux: BMO's Accessibility Study.
BMO's Institute for Learning stepped back and took a comprehensive
look at making their services truly accessible to those with special
needs. We'll hear about the work, illustrated with examples.
-
Agilent, Pat Ross & Kendra Anderson: Employee Development.
What novel approaches are you taking to support employee development
at your company? Do you have a philosophy of leadership development
at all levels? If yes, how is this communicated, supported and
developed?
- Agilent,
Pat Ross & Kendra Anderson: New Employee Onboarding.
What new kinds of things are you doing today to help new employees
get up to speed and productive quickly in their new jobs?
- Lockheed
Martin Aeronautics, Sue Hoffman: Skill Retention.
How can we retain critical skills in an aging workforce environment?
What strategies, processes, and/or best practices are you using
to ensure that critical skills don't walk out the door?
- Agilent,
Pat Ross & Kendra Anderson: Employee Engagement.
What are the latest strategies (related to learning and development)
you are employing to boost employee engagement, especially for
longer term employees?
- Alumna,
Pat Golden (Formerly FreddieMac): Action Learning.
The World Institute for Action Learning (WIAL) has been formed.
I would be interested in hearing about how the attending companies
are using Action Learning in Leadership Development.
- Alumna,
Judy Issokson (Formerly Agilent, HP, Sun, Apple): Multigenerational
Workforce Issues. What is the impact of a multigenerational
workforce on HR/staffing/workplace issues? Frequently, "performance
issues" seem to be disconnects in expectations/understandings/experience
between generations.
- Bank
of Montreal, Ian MacNeil: Microsoft's OneNote. I've been experimenting
with this personal organization tool. Have others tried it? How
are you using it?
- Bank
of Montreal, Ian MacNeil: "T-BOK", a Training Body of
Knowledge. Professional groups like the Project Management
Institute offer "Body of Knowledge" documents that are
granualar, comprehensive, and referencable. What would a Training
Body of Knowledge be like and how might one be created?
- Quidel,
Phyllis Huckabee: Coaxing Leaders to dig into Marshall Goldsmith's
"What Got You Here Won't Get You There". I'd like
STEP's advice on how to incorporate the new Marshall Goldsmith
book into basic leadership training we're doing, starting May
9th. In addition to the content of the program (which I am in
the process of finalizing), I want people to be able to dig further
if they are interested. I've thought about giving them all a copy
of the book. However, I would like to draw their attention to
portions of the book during the program to lure them into reading
it.
- (Additional
topics will be identified at the start of the meeting, and throughout.)
