BREAKFAST: Buffet breakfast will be provided by American Express at the Oak Ridge Conference Center where we will be lodging and meeting. Information about the buffet breakfasts will be provided when you check in.

MONDAY, MAY 8th

6:00-8:00 P.M. Informal welcome dinner in the Oak Ridge Conference Center. If you are arriving later, let Darlene Wilde (612-368-1420) know and she will arrange to have a food basket delivered to your room as there are no restaurants on-site.

TUESDAY, MAY 9th

8:15 Holly Faccin : Welcome to American Express Financial Advisors.
8:30 Stan Malcolm: Welcome new members and general introductions. Capture additional Roundtable topics.
9:00 Terri Paul (W.W. Grainger), Karie Willyerd (HJ Heinz), and Mike Dickinson (USAA): Executive Assessment, Leadership Development, and Succession Planning - Strategies, Practices, and Software. This seems to be a topic much on the minds of STEP members so please come prepared to share your company's experiences/approaches as part of a broad-ranging, in-depth discussion.

Mike Dickinson (USAA) and Terri Paul (W.W. Grainger): Core Competencies: Definition and Diffusion; Measurement and Tracking. Mike will share approaches he has seen to this subject and he asks that you share your experiences too. Terri will describe how Grainger Parts has integrated competencies into their organizational work processes.

9:00 Graham Precey (Agilent Technologies): Service Companies - Strategies for Management, Organization, and Decision-Making. Graham will lead a discussion asking for your input on several questions, including: What is the role of a global strategic services management team? What is the impact of globalization on the structure of services companies? What are the models for structuring a global services business, how is one chosen, and what are their pros/cons? What can we learn from the agility of "DOT.COM" companies and how can we apply that learning to "Blue Chip" companies?
10:00 Gail Tomiak (USAA): Training Department Strategies for... handling large growth spurts; training large populations in multiple states, "work-in-place" instruction, training their trainers, evaluating their on-line instruction, managing the ratio of SMEs to instructional designers, developing training managers. Gail would like your input to all these questions.
11:00 STEP Business Meeting: The State of STEP - membership, activities, opportunities, and populating the web site.
