THE COURTING CORRESPONDENCE
of
EDWARD LEON GREENE and RUTH GERTRUDE JONES

OCTOBER 23rd, 1898 - ELG to RGJ ______________________________________________________________________________________

Fragment of a letter only. Perhaps saved only for the sketch with heads the top of the sheet. It depicts a river with the sea beyond, a rowboat in the foreground, saltbox style houses in the middle-ground, and the masts of several ships visible beyond the houses. Note Ed's fine penmanship in "So. Paris" at the lower right of the drawing.

My Dear Ruth. Oct. 23rd 1898.

It is now six o'clock but I am going to begin this now just the same. (Here the paper is ripped off. The back has a number 5 at the top; presumably page 5; and starts…) know how I want to see my "Ruth I wonder if she will do as Lillian did when she gets home and meets Jene (?) "face to face" on the "old threshold" over "Jordan"? Am glad the day is drawing near for you don't know how lonesome I am.

Will get ready for meeting now as it 6.40 and the bell rings in 5 minutes.
