THE COURTING CORRESPONDENCE
of
EDWARD LEON GREENE and RUTH GERTRUDE JONES

DECEMBER 21st, 1900 - ELG to RGJ ______________________________________________________________________________________

In envelope postmarked South Paris, December 21st, 1900, addressed to "Miss Gertrude Jones, East Poland, Maine, c/o C. M. Jordan." On the back, someone has pencilled "7." At this time, RGJ was teaching in the East Poland School (#7, Mousam?) and probably boarded with C. M. Jordan. Envelope and letter are both torn on one end (matching tears that confirm letter and envelope go together) and this has made some words difficult to infer/read.

Thursday Eve.

My Darling Ruth.

Have you got one of the enclosed pictures. I got the impression that I gave you one like it last spring or summer can you remember.

I found two of this so am sending it to you while I think of it that you may have one if you have not. If you have one like it why you can give it back to me unless you want to keep it. Hoping you are feeling well tonight and are not all tired out from your days work.

Well my honey I hope two more days will bring us together again for a happy time.

Scotts wifes mother died recently and was buried today.

You see we got through work quite early to-night. first time we have got through in decent season since I came here I believe.

Well I must stop as it is most time to go.

Lots of love to you my ho__ (page torn here) with hugs and kisses and everything good that can come from me.

Your aff. hubby.
Duddy.

In this same envelope but with paper folded to be shorter and not torn is a sheet with the following:

To the only girl
I love.
She is all all the
world to me.

There were other dated letters tucking into this same envelope so the dedication above might well have been written at some other time.
