December 29th. Six inches or so of snow overnight between the 26th and 27th. Warm enough for melting today so slushy.

ATVs had been out at some point and made quite a mess.

The ATVs came/went from the Cochester Spur.

West of the Spur junction, just footprints.

Fog visible in most of the pictures but dramatic in this one way out into the marsh.

December 30th. Ice on the trail at the Route 85 parking area.

Very slippery, even with ice cleats.

The dark tracks were icy too. I won't try a walk until next year (a couple of days at least).

January 2nd, 2026. The ice from a few days ago is now masked by several inches of snow.

By walking near the edges, I was able to avoid the worst of the ice.

No fog this morning at least.

January 4th. The Raymond Brook Marsh exit stream as it reaches Old Colchester Road.

A fresh half inch of snow overnight, covering the existing layers of ice and snow.

Trekking pole for safety, and four wheel drive to get out of the parking area later.

Very few footprints on the trail at Norton's Pond.

Seed head of Common Reed (Phragmites australis).
