June 10th. Pasture or Carolina Rose (Rosa carolina).

The resident Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) family, feeding on clover.

Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius) grooming.

June 11th. The Barred Owl (Strix varia) was perched just before the Colchester Spur junction today.

A male Ebony Jewelwing damselfly (Calopteryx maculata).

Nothing much happening at Old Colchester Road in the pit...

...but the tall drill was loaded onto a trailer, presumably headed for the other side of the stream to drill for footings there.

June 12th. Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius) trying to be inconspicuous.

The goslings are growing fast!

Swamp-azalea (Rhododendron viscosum).

My phone tells me this is a Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) body feather, but what I've seen not far away lately has been a Barred Owl (Strix varia). So... take your pick.

In the background to the right of the water truck, you can see the boring machine, so as predicted, they'll soon be making holes for footings on that side of the stream.

Meanwhile, workers are pouring concrete into the holes made recently on the near side.

The latest one to be filled.

Attaching the hose to fill the next hole.

June 13th. A Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius) landed by a female Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) and several ducklings.

Lots more ducklings nearby.

In fact, two families of them.

A Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina) nest raided of its eggs. (I posted pictures of the turtle in that nest a few days ago.)

Appalachian Brown (Satyrodes appalachia) butterfly.

First open Common Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) flower.

At Cranberry Bog, the resident Great Blue Heron with the damaged tongue and throat.

Lots of Canada Geese (Branta canadensis) around. They're molting: lots of wing feathers on the ground.

The goslings have gotten very large. Here they were heading to shade around a tree.

Sweet Peas (Lathyrus odoratus) looking good.

Skippers and Bumble Bees working them.

One of the Knapweeds (Centaurea sp.) with a small Skipper (Polites sp.).

June 14th. More flowers open this morning on the Common Mullein (Verbascum thapsus).
