May 26th. Common Cinquefoil (Potentilla simplex).
Whirligig Beetle (Dineutus sp.).
Two Painted Turtles (Chrysemys picta) at Norton's Pond.
Holiday over but no work at Old Colchester Road. (Still true on Wednesday the 27th.)
Lots of water behind the barriers with no power to pumps to get rid of it.
May 27th. Vitrine Swallow Moth (Pyreferra citrombra) caterpillar. More about it here: https://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/species.php?hodges=9930
Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) hunting bugs on lily pads.
Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum). Wow.
One Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius) at the marsh.
Owl feather (according to the internet) on the ground. Barred Owl most likely.
May 28th. The usual Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius) at the marsh.
I think this is Nannyberry (Viburnum lentago) or at least another Viburnum species.
A family of Canada Geese (Branta canadensis) at the marsh. They were on the channel side.
A female Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) with two of her three ducklings. (I couldn't get a shot with all three.)
May 29th. At Old Colchester Road, water drained and gravel added sometime yesterday.
The goose family was back in roughly the same channel side spot today. I see one of the adults has a leg band.
Heading off into the channel as "traffic" on the trail became too much for them.
May 30th. Just two goslings today. I suspect a Snapping Turtle may have gotten one.
Clover seems to be their favorite food.
At Old Colchester Road, the rock pile is gone...
...and rain has left puddles in the excavated area again.
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is blooming.
Larger Blue Flag Iris (Iris versicolor).
Common or Philadelphia Fleabane (Erigeron philadelphicus).
An Oak Apple gall, formed as a reaction to the presence of a small Cynipid wasp (Amphibolips confluenta) larva.
The skin of the gall stripped away reveals a small chamber suspended in the center...
...where the wasp develops. The adult wasp bores a hole in the gall to escape.
