September 6th, continued. Great Egret (Ardea alba) at the pond east of River Road.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus).

A young female Wood Duck (Aix sponsa).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next stop, Cranberry Bog. Touch-me-not or Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dodder (Cuscuta gronovii) and parasitic vine with orange stems. The white flowers are of the Dodder; the pink of the plant it was twining over.

 

 

Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) on Goldenrod (Solidago sp.).

 

 

Digger Wasp (Scolia dubia).

 

 

Silver-spotted Skipper (Epargyreus clarus) on Sweet Pea (Lathyrus odoratrus).

 

 

 

 

 

Looks like an American Black Duck (Anas rubripes).

 

 

 

 

 

Three Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa) The red-eyed male is getting his adult plumage.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Back at the pond east of River Road, the Cormorant again...

 

 

...and some Painted Turtles (Chrysemys picta).

 

 

 

 

 

September 7th. Two young Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa) at Cranberry Bog, feeding on Duckweed (Lemna minor).

 

 

Rose Hips on Multiflora Rose (Rosa multiflora).

 

 

Turtlehead (Chelone glabra). Flowers already past prime.

 

 

 

 

 

White Snakeroot (Ageratina altissima) just starting to bloom.

 

 

 

 

 

Sheep at the little barnyard east of Cranberry Bog.

 

 

 

 

 

September 8th. Another foggy morning.

 

 

A young male Wood Duck (Aix sponsa).

 

 

A distant Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus).
