September 1st. Female Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) on her favorite stump.

Another female nearby.

The Great Egret (Ardea alba).

Can a bird look grumpy?

Possibly Flat-topped White Aster (Aster umbellatus).

Closed Gentian (Gentiana andrewsii).

Most of the Showy Tick Trefoil (Desmodium canadense) was mowed before setting seed - the annoying, hard to remove "ticks".

Heading back past the Great Egret.

Don't let it fool you. It's not cuddly.

Two distant Red-shouldered Hawks (Buteo linearis).

American Dagger Moth (Acronicta americana).

At the pond east of River Road, four Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa). I wonder why three were leaning over so far.

Eight more Wood Ducks.

The Great Egret (Ardea alba) circled overhead, then landed right beside the Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius). The heron looked surprised.

Social distancing?

The resident Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius) at Cranberry Bog in mid-afternoon.

Goldenrod (Solidago sp.) still attracting bees and other insects like this Locust Borer (Megacyllene robiniae).

I don't have an ID for this wasp, but note that it's still able to fly despite missing much of its wings.

...Thick-headed Fly (Family Conopidae).

A Bluet damselfly (Enallagma sp.).

At the pond east of River Road, a Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus)...

...

...and the Great Egret (Ardea alba) that I photographed this morning.
