August 22nd. An adult Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Two Double-crested Cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus) at the pond east of River Road.

Green Heron (Butorides virescens).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hops (Humulus lupulus) vines growing over the boulder at the Route 207 crossing. It blooms there every year.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Back to the pond east of River Road in the late afternoon. The Cormorants haven't moved much.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Three Painted Turtles (Chrysemys picta).

 

 

August 23rd. Great Egret (Ardea alba) at Raymond Brook Marsh.

Early afternoon at Cranberry Bog. The resident Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius).

 

 

 

 

 

Lots of Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa) around.

 

 

Feeding on Duckweed (Lemna minor) as they swam along.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Heron's damaged throat and tongue, and resorting to gular flutter to keep cool.
