August 19th. Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius) at Cranberry Bog.

A good view of its damaged tongue sticking out of its throat. It has been this way for four years.

Cooling or drying?

Sunflowers and bees at the public garden plots to the east of Cranberry Bog.

A Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) at the pond east of River Road.
\

A Great Egret (Ardea alba) at the eastern end of the pond.
\

Not seen until I started editing pictures, a Green Heron (Butorides virescens) and a Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) beside the Egret.

Ah, the Green Heron has turned around - and the Wood Duck is gone.

Back to the Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus).

A male Wood Duck (Aix sponsa), perhaps the bird that was beside the Green Heron.

August 20th. (My parents' 87th Anniversary.) The Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) has claimed the Wood Duck house.

Green Frog (Rana clamitans).

The usual Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius).

Gee, its lower beak seems eroded away. Very old bird?

A female Wood Duck (Aix sponsa).

August 21st. A Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) at the pond east of River Road.

Tough to get pictures because it would only stay on the surface a fe seconds before diving and coming up far away.

Down it goes!

A Northern Flatid Planthopper (Anormenis chloris).

No waterfowl at all at Cranberry Bog, but nice pinkish Hedge Bindweed (Convolvulus sepium).

Blooming right by the Smith Street crossing, Partridge-pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata).

A relative of Wild Sensitive-Plant, I think this is the first time I've seen it on the trail.
