Grapes (Vitus sp.) ripening though they won't be tasty for awhile.

The patch of Cardinal-flower (Lobelia cardinalis) is still doing great. Best in years.

New York Ironweed (Vernonia noveboracensis).

A young male Wood Duck (Aix sponsa).

The Cormorant still in the same spot 20 minutes later on my walk back.

August 19th. Bouncing Bet (Saponaria officinalis) still blooming.

The Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) in its usual spot.

A female Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). Haven't seen a Mallard for awhile.

Belted Kingfisher (Ceryle alcyon).

Back to the Cormorant.

Just one Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius) this morning.

I found this Dog-day Cicada (Neotibicen canicularis) in the middle of the trail where it could have been run over. Only males "sing" and this is a female because it lacks the tymbal covers of the males.

I placed it on a lichen encrusted tree where it really blended in.
