August 16h. Late morning at Cranberry bog and both the Great Egret (Ardea alba) and Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius) were where I saw them yesterday. (See previous page.)

But today, the Great Egret took off, flying east.

I walked to the little pond about a quarter mile east, hoping it landed there. Nope, but I did see this Red Maple (Acer rubrum) well into developing fall colors.

That pond was covered over in Fragrant Water-lilies (Nymphaea odorata).

Back to Cranberry Bog where the Great Blue Heron was on the hunt, complicated by young Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa) at its feet..

A little later, the seven Wood Ducks and Great Blue Heron had separated.

Next stop, the pond east of River Road, hoping that was where the Great Egret was headed.

No egret, but a Great Blue Heron occupied the spot where I took Cormorant pictures on August 12th (two pages ago).

Lots of grooming.

"Gular flutter"; the bird was overheated and "panting".

August 17th. Nothing interesting at Raymond Brook Marsh so I walked a bit east from Route 207.
Hedge Bindweed (Convolvulus sepium).

Bumble Bee (Family Bombidae).

The introduced Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle (Harmoinia axyridis).

Another one, on Chicory (Cichorium intybus).

A distant Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius).

These look like Amanita sp. to me, but there are other possibilities, like Lepiota sp.

This and the following pics were taken quite close to the picture above.

Note the Fruit Fly (Drosophila sp.).
