June 10th. Sweet Peas at Cranberry Bog (Lathyrus odoratus).

 

 

 

 

 

Great Knapweed (Centaurea scabiosa) and a Bumble Bee (Family Bombidae).

 

 

 

 

 

The seven older goslings and their Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) parents.

 

 

A domestic goose at the little farmyard east of Cranberry Bog. I've never seen one like this before.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next, I walked east from Depot Hill Road in Cobalt.

 

 

Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Black Swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes).

 

 

 

 

 

Silver-spotted Skipper (Epargyreus clarus).

 

 

Little Wood-satyr (Magisto cymela) in pretty rough shape.

 

 

Daisy Fleabane (Erigeron annuus).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cuckoo Bee (Nomada maculata).

 

 

 

 

 

Drone Fly (Family Syrphidae, Eristalis tenax), a honey bee mimic on Ox-eye Daisy.

 

 

Leaf-footed Bug (Acanthocephala terminalis), also on Ox-eye Daisy. The white object on its head may be a Compsilura concinnata parasitic fly egg.

 

 

A Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle (Harmonia axyridis). A fast spreading import. I think it is eating a small katydid nymph.

 

 

A Long-legged Fly (Family Dolichopodidae, Condylostylus patibulatus).

 

 

Rough-fruited Cinquefoil (Potentilla recta).

 

 

Nightshade (Solanum dulcamara).

 

 

A relative of Tomato and Potato.

 

 

Crown-vetch (Securigera varia).

 

 

 

 

 

Birdfoot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus).

 

 

Deptford Pink (Dianthus armeria) - with a mite on the left petal.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Evening Lychnis (Lychnis alba).

 

 

A freshly eclosed male Common Whitetail dragonfly (Plathemis lydia).The prunose blue-grey abdomenal color will devolop in time.

 

 

June 11th. One of two Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodius) at the marsh today...

 

 

 

 

 

...high in a dead tree. Can you spot it?

 

 

June 12th. The Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodius) where I photographed it two days ago.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

June 13th. Barred Owl (Strix varia) east of Cook Hill Road in Lebanon.

 

 

Not interested in me. Soon flew away.

 

 

Six-spotted Tiger Beetle (Cicindela sexguttata).

 

 

Rabbit's-foot Clover (Trifolium arvense).

 

 

Prettier the closer you get.

 

 

 

 

 

Note the white typical clover style flowers towards the top of the inflorescence.

 

 

Sensitive Fern (Onoclea sensibilis).

 

 

Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) sticking up through a fern leaf.

 

 

Alsike Clover (Trifolium hybridum). It lacks the chevrons of Red Clover leaflets above.

 

 

 

 

 

June 14th. A great year so far for Highbush Blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum).

 

 

Chipmunks and others eat most of them before they ripen.
