August 19th. Woodland Sunflower (Helianthus divaricatus).

I'm pretty sure that this is the same American Dagger Moth caterpillar (Acronicta americana) that I photographed on August 12th. More yellow than white now, but feeding on the same small branch of Maple.

It has been working in from the tip of the branch, one leaf at a time, leaving behind only the petiole bases.

Bluecurls (Trichostema dicotomom).

A brief stop at the Route 207 trail crossing. Hedge Bindweed (Convolvulus sepium). Not how dark the base of the flower is.

That's because this Bumble Bee (Family Bombidae) was down there.

A few Chicory (Cichorium intybus) flowers just opening at 8 AM. They turn white and fade by early afternoon.

I was afraid I wouldn't see an Evening Primrose Moth (Schinia florida) this year, but here's one.

One or sometimes two rest deep in Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis) flowers where eggs are laid and the caterpillars feed on the seed pods and other plant parts.

August 20th. Slightly better pictures of Bluecurls (Trichostema dicotomom).

Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) atop a wood duck house, it's favorite perch when not hunting. Very difficult now to get pictures of the marsh. Too much tall vegetation so you have to focus through peep holes.

A "teenage" male Wood Duck (Aix sponsa).

A large Puffball, roughly 4" across. Guessing Calvatia sp..

Gray Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis).

A male Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula).

A Green Heron (Butorides virescens) and one of the Flycatchers, probably an Eastern Phoebe (Sayornis phoebe).

Virgin's-bower (Clematis virginiana) a climbing vine with distinctive "beardy" seed heads in a few weeks.

Late morning east of Cook Hill Road in Lebanon. Spotted Knapweed (Centaurea maculosa).

One of the erect hawkweeds with toothed leaves up the stem. Best guess is Canada Hawkweed (Hieracium canadense).

A male wasp-mimic Flower Fly (Family Syrphidae). In many male flies, the eyes meet at the top of the head. In females, there's a gap.

Plain old Red Clover (Trifolium pratense).

Lots of small flowers make up the flower head.

The purplish bracts suggest that this is Hairy Lettuce (Lactuca hirsuta).

Some flowers were white.

Seed heads resemble miniature Dandelion puffs.

Common Ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia). Unfortunately, too common.

Hobomok Skipper (Poanes hobomok).

August 22nd. Three young Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa).

And they're off!

Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta).

August 23rd. Today there were four young Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa) where yesterday I saw three.

Several Warblers hunting together. I'll guess a female Common Yellowthroat (Geothlypis trichas).

Woodland Sunflower (Helianthus divaricatus).
