June 19th. Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias). Many of the following shots are near duplicates, but be patient (as I was) and be rewarded.
Stepping down to the lower level.
Stalking now.
Preparing to strike.
I missed the splash, but the hunt was successful.
Brown Bullhead Catfish (Ameiurus nebuliosus). Note the barbules on the head.
Stabbed through and through.
The heron flew off to swallow the fish without an audience.
A few minutes later, the log was occupied by two Painted Turtles (Chrysemys picta).
Nothing new at the Eastern Kingbird (Tyrannus tyrannus) nest.
Red Osier Dogwood (Cornus sericea), yet another spring blooming shrub with white flower clusters.
This species has four petals (or bracts?) like more familiar and showy dogwoods.
June 20th. Along Route 85, installation of the pedestrian warnings is complete...
...though the light buttons are not yet operational.
A far distant female Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) with one duckling visible.
Two Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias) this morning.
An afternoon walk west from Grayville Road to the Judd Brook bridge. Red Clover (Trifolium repense).
A Flower Longhorn beetle (Family Cerambycidae, Subfamily Lepturinae).
A Bumble Bee (Family Bombidae) on Red Clover too.
Bumble Bee on a Beardtongue (Penstemon sp.) flower.
Check out that tongue.
Little Wood-satyr butterfly (Megisto cymela).
A male Ebony Jewelwing damselfly (Calopteryx maculatum).
