April 10th. With the warm afternoon temperature, Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) flowers have opened. They close overnight.

This bee looks very familiar, but I can't ID it, even to family. Nomada sp. maybe?

 

 

Trailing Arbutus (Epigaea repens) is blooming west of the Brownstone Bridge.

April 11th. Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa). Saw a Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) but it was masked by vegetation so no useful photos.

 

 

April 12th. Male Wood Duck (Aix sponsa)...

 

 

...and a Canada Goose (Branta canadensis).

 

 

Based on size, first guess was a Musk Turtle... but then I noticed the yellow spots on its head and the very worn shell...

 

 

...so I'm going with an older Spotted Turtle (Clemmys guttata), its carapace spots simply worn beyond recognition.

 

 

An afternoon walk below Grayville Falls. Marsh-marigold (Caltha palustris).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

False Hellebore (Veratrum viride).

 

 

Trout-Lily (Erythronium americanum).

 

 

Red-necked False Blister Beetle (Asclera ruficollis).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Just opening; the anthers haven't fully deployed their pollen.

 

 

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale).

 

 

Just west of Cook Hill Road in Lebanon. Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis).

 

 

The petals fall off as soon as it's pollenated.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The only Spring Beauty (Claytonia caroliniana) in bloom so far.
