January 19th. Ice covered by light snow has kept me off the trail for a few days. I needed spiked cleats. More snow coming tomorrow.

The marsh section was slightly better.

I took a walk east from Cranberry Bog in early afternoon when the temp had reached 42. Sheep enjoying a bit of grass...

...at the nearby little barnyard.

For the most part, the trail was in great shape; not very icy once you got a bit beyond the parking area.

I wanted to check the ice in the rock cut further east and was not dissapointed.

This is just the first stretch of the cut. It goes on quite a bit further as you'll see.

Nearing the far end of the cut before turning back west.

January 22nd. Late morning at the marsh. Not a bird in sight or sound.

Trail in pretty good shape. Some ice under light snow. Sun felt good at high teens.

Cartoon face in profile?

Footprints on the ice.

Optical illusion: convex or concave?

The ice was growling this morning.

January 23rd. Twelve degrees. Sun bright briefly.

Some animal was out on the marsh surface.

Clouds moved in to darken the sun.
