December 23rd. Pre-dawn near the Route 85 trail head.
The speck is one of several birds flying by left to right.
A few scattered kaleidoscope captures as a Christmas bonus.
Starting to fade.
Alternate branching, with one side dominating to a degree, being the leader until the next branching. Or just an abstract pattern on snow.
December 24th. An unexpected pre-dawn sky, a bit later than yesterday.
Faded by the time I got to the main marsh...
...but came and went a bit after that.
Cracks in the ice by the old stump.
An old bird nest.
A male Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus).
Winter Stoneflies (Family Capniidae, probably Allocapnia sp.) were out in numbers near the Route 85 trail head.
The kaleidosdcope capture images above were created using Jim Bumgardner's "Make your own Kaleidoscope" software available free online at http://www.krazydad.com/kaleido/ Here's how to do it.
