August 31st. Heavy dew on the spider webs. The Orb Weavers shelter nearby, concealed in the foliage.

Showy Tick Trefoil (Desmodium canadense) seed pods framing this web.

Grape (Vitus sp.) vines frame this one.

Seed heads of Carrion-flower (Smilax herbacea) on their way to turning nearly black.

An Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) out on a popular limb.

A few Tree Swallows (Tachycineta bicolor) were still perching on higher branches.

Later in the day I walked the trail in Windham, starting at Route 203 (upper right), traveling west to near the junction of Routes 6 and 66 (lower left), a 2.7 mile round trip.

Looking east from the Route 203 crossing, the trail dips and rises steeply, suggesting there was once a bridge here.

The sign board on the east side of Route 203.

Announcement for an upcoming half marathon. Race information here: https://tacklethetrail.org/

Turning west, lots of White Wood Asters (Aster divaricatus).

Bumble Bee (Family Bombidae).

Spotted Knapweed (Centaurea maculosa).

Looks like Bristly Aster (Ionactis linariifolius) to me.

Hmm, I don't guess on Mushroom identifications.

Japanese Knotweed (Fallopia japonica, formerly Reynoutria japonica), a nasty invasive.

A Sunflower species (Helianthus sp.).

An "escaped" Garden Phlox (Phlox paniculata).

Painted Turtles (Chrysemys picta) on a downed tree.

The western most point of my walk. No sign of the Great Blue Heron nests that were here years ago.

\

Beavers (Castor canadensis) still live there.

Returning east, swatting mosquitoes the whole way back to my truck.
