June 21st. Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura).

One of two female Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) that flew in, so they at least have finished molting. Looks like she's wearing a crown.

Young Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa) paddling upstream in the channel. Three males and one female in this group.

All paused on a log. Last to arrive was "mom" at the upper left. (She sports the white teardrop around her eye.)

The female is still molting and flightless.

After a break, they continued upstream.

First Frostweed (Helianthemum canadense) flower of the year.

Green Frog (Rana clamitans).

June 22nd. Common St. Johnswort (Hypericum perforatum).

Fragrant Water-lily (Nymphaea odorata). First one I've seen open this year.

The Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa) in their usual resting place.

Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum) still on the nest. I'd assumed young had already fledged.

Great Crested Flycatcher (Myiarchus crinitus), a first for me. Thanks to Russ Smiley for the ID.

Swamp Azalea (Rhododendron viscosum).

Sticky hairs on the floral tubes.

Highbush Blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum) starting to ripen.

Green Frog (Rana clamitans).

Boo!

On my return walk, the Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa) were still hanging out.

Summer Azure (Celastina neglecta) on a fallen scrap of foliose lichen.

Poke Milkweed (Asclepias exaltata) is blooming now at the Route 85 trailhead.

June 23rd. Various stops on or near the trail from River Road through Route 149 to Old Hartford Road.
Deptford Pink (Dianthus armeria).

Rough-fruited Cinquefoil (Potentilla recta).

Much paler looking in shadow versus sun.

Here with Morrow's Honeysuckle (Loniocera morrowii) in fruit.
