October 23rd. Sunrise.

Male Red-winged Blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) passing through.

 

 

Sadly, not calling. We won't hear their "songs" again until mid-February.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

October 24th. Moon beyond full, before dawn at 37 degrees.

 

 

Very foggy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A couple of Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) around, and I heard Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa) calling.

 

 

A male Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis). Juncos will be present through the winter.

 

 

Common Reed (Phragmites australis) at dawn.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

October 25th. Cranberry Bog in East Hampton. The patch of dark green invasive Water Hyacinth (Pontederia - formerly Eichhornia - crassipes) and light green invasive, Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) still needs to be dealt with.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A nice group of Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos).
