January 15th.

Clear, except for some ground fog.

A pair of Hooded Mergansers (Lophodytes cucullatus) was an unusual treat for this time of year.

Scouting below before a dive.

Even a sunrise of sorts.

January 16th. An afternoon walk at the marsh with high winds and turbulent clouds.

Note the white speck on the horizon.

Here it is at maximum telephoto.

A few Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) braving the weather. (I also heard an owl calling down towards Old Colchester Road.)

An unattended dog. A jogger passing by said he belonged to a local gym owner so at least he wasn't lost. Both headed back towards Route 85.

January 20th.

Same day, a mid-afternoon walk east from Cranberry Bog. Thirty seconds before taking this photo, there was a Red-tailed Hawk in that tree, darn it.

My destination was a long stretch of rock cut...

...where massive icicles form.

Back at my starting point. No hawk.

January 21st. Five degrees at 7:00 A.M.
