December 4th. Winter Stoneflies (Family Capniidae) were out. (I usually see them atop snow.)

It was a day for browns... some blue, and sunshine.

Lots of Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) together, far out in the marsh.

A pair of Northern Cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis).

December 7th. Despite fresh ice across most of Raymond Brook Marsh, Canada Geese (Branta canadensis) maintained open water overnight.

December 10th. A hint of color in a nearly cloudless sky.

Sun just reaching the tree tops.

Sunshine soon brought warmth to the trail itself.

Despite temps just above freezing, some ice remains on the outlet stream.

December 12th. Early fog clearing.

December 13th. Very foggy, but I came out early in hopes of a colorful sunrise through the fog.

The first dim hints of sum on the horizon.

Starting to grow.

Some blue sky above.

Finally, the sun broke through.
