October 21st. Fiftyseven degrees, cloudy, and dense fog in many places. Looking like late fall.

 

 

Massive spider webs wet with dew.

A brief walk east from Route 149 in North Westchester.

 

 

 

 

 

Several species of Aster still blooming though most are way past prime.

 

 

 

 

 

Bumble Bees (Family Bombidae) active, gathering pollen.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Broad-headed Bug (Alydus eurinus) on seed heads of Round-headed Bush Clover (Lespedeza capitata).

October 22nd. A lone Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) passing through.

 

 

 

 

 

The next time I'm likely to hear their calls will be mid February.

 

 

October 31st. Back on the trail, mid day, after several days of rain and two inches of snow yesterday.
