March 19th.  Lots of Canada Geese (Branta canadensis) passing through.

They soon took off for breakfast in nearby corn fields.

A couple of resident pairs stayed behind.

A shy male Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) far away on the channel side.

Sedge hummocks are starting to send up new green shoots.

The first new lily pads are coming to the surface.

Some Red Maples (Acer rubrum) are in bloom.

Haircap Moss (Polytrichum sp.).

A pair of Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) at Cranberry Bog in East Hampton.

Chives. Crush a couple and give them a sniff!
