May 20th.  An afternoon walk east of Route 207 from Hebron into Lebanon.  Lots of Pink Lady's-slipper orchids (Cypripedium acaule).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wild Geranium (Geranium maculatum).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pink Azalea or Pinxter Flower (Rhododendrom nudiflorum).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Starflower (Trientalis borealis)... and a Stonefly.

 

 

 

 

 

Autumn Olive (Elaeagnus umbellata), a fragrant invasive.

 

 

Golden Alexanders (Zizea aurea).

 

 

American Lady (Vanessa virginiensis).

 

 

Indian Cucumber-root (Medeola virginiana).

 

 

 

 

 

A female Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos).

 

 

May 21st.  A Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) back on the nest.

 

 

Activity at the Yellow-throated Vireo (Vireo flavifrons) nest.  This series taken from 8:11 to 9:12 A.M.  Most of that time, one bird or the other was snuggled deep in the nest.  Transitions between the pair were very fast.  Many of these pictures were taken during brief nest maintenance chores.
