April 21st. Apple blossoms at Cranberry Bog, East Hampton.

 

 

 

 

 

Female Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) nesting on the favorite Cranberry Bog hummock.

 

 

...while "Dad" patrols nearby.

 

 

 

 

 

April 23rd. Bluets or Quaker Ladies (Houstonia caerulea).

 

 

Toothwort (Dentaria diphylla).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rue Anemone (Anemonella thalictroides).

 

 

Invasive Barberry (Berberus sp.).

 

 

An afternoon walk east of Old Hartford Road revealed Marsh-Marigold
(Caltha palustris) blooming profusely by a vernal pool.

 

 

 

 

 

Violets (Viola sp.) carpeted the trail edges.

 

 

Pink Lady's-Slipper Orchids (Cypripedium acaule) are up about four inches...

 

 

...and some have buds showing.  Will be several more weeks at least before the buds open.

 

 

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) looks surreal up close.

 

 

 

 

 

A Ladybird Beetle (Family Coccinelidae) on Dendelion.

 

 

First Duskywing Skipper of the year; probably Juvenal's Duskywing (Erymmis juvenalis).

 

 

A True Bug (Order Hemiptera) nymph.  Probably of an Assasin Bug (Family Reduviidae).

 

 

April 26th. Grape (Vitus sp.) leaves are starting to unfurl.

 

 

A Cherry? (Prunus sp.)

 

 

Sessile Bellwort (Uvularia sessilifolia).

 

 

Dwarf Ginseng (Panax trifolius).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

First blossoms of Pond or Bullhead Lily (Nuphar vareigatum).

 

 

Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum).

 

 

Oak (Quercus sp.) in flower.

 

 

Hmm, I'm not sure.

 

 

Common Garden Slug on Horsetail (Equisetum sp.).

 

 

Eastern Tent Caterpillars (Malacosoma americanum) are getting bigger.
