William Fairweather Malcolm, his wife Catherine McPherson, and their children - Photo taken in Kerrimuir, Scotland, probably in late-1898 since cousin Arlene Halme reminds me that "Catherine McP, Isobel and the newly born Elizabeth all died close together in early 1899." (Elizabeth is not present in this picture, but I think must have been born judging from Donald's age. Catherine died on Jan 1, 1899.)

Thanks to Arlene for help identifying the children in the picture and adding some interesting anecdotes (below the picture).

Left to right...
Back row:
William Malcolm (b. 1878), John Fairlie (Jock) Malcolm (b. 1882), Susan (Suse) Malcolm (b. 187?), Alexander McPherson Malcolm (my grandfather, b. 1876).

Second row from back: Amelia Fairweather Malcolm (b. 1885), William Fairweather Malcolm (b. 1852), Catherine McPherson (b. 1853).

Third row from back (with two children seated on their parents' knees): James (Jim) McPherson Malcolm (b. 1886), Anne (Anderson?) Malcolm (b. 1895), Donald (Daniel) Malcolm (b. 1898), David (Dave) Duncan Malcolm (b. 1888),

Front row: Andrew Fairlie Malcolm (b. 1889), Isobella (Bella) Malcolm (b. 1891), Leonard McPherson Malcolm (b. 1892), Catherine (Kate, Kit) Malcolm (b. 1890).

Arlene Halme says about this picture: "We've always wondered why John was wearing a black arm band, presumably for mourning but he seemed to be the only one wearing it. David and Alex seemed to be sharing a joke as they are the only ones looking remotely happy, my mom knows that her dad had been kicking Catherine while they were sitting there. My grandfather (David Duncan Malcolm) is the little boy on the extreme right leaning against the building. This picture is taken at their house in Kirriemuir that is next door to the McDonalds. I had an opportunity to go inside and just can't imagine how they all lived in such a tiny house with two bedrooms upstairs. Going up the stairs I just cleared the ceiling, the boys must have had to double over to go up the stairs."
