On December 27th, we again visited the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in South Deerfield, MA. We highly recommend it!

(If you don't happen to be near Massachusetts, click here for a listing of other places worldwide where you can view live butterflies.)

After you've viewed these pictures, you may wish to click here for photos of an earlier visit we made to Magic Wings.

Kalima, the Indian leaf butterfly.

Ian with Kalima, the Indian leaf butterfly. (The underside is a perfect leaf mimic, complete with clear circular "insect damage" holes. The butterfly normally rests with its wings folded and the hind wing "tails" held against a branch like the petiole of a leaf.)

Jill with a large Danaeid (relative to our North American Monarch and Queen butterflies). The yellow reflection in her glasses is my shirt: we all wore bright colors to entice the butterflies to land on us - which they did frequently. In fact, a Danaeid like the one Jill is wearing tried to hitch a ride out on Ian. Boy, would it have been shocked by the sub-freezing outdoor temps!
