December 28, 1999. We were visited by Stan's niece, Julie (front left), her husband Kurt Reinhart (behind her), and Kurt's dad, Ron (center rear). Jill is center front, Julie at right, and Ian in front. (Stan took the picture.)

For Christmas, I gave Julie the arbor she has been coveting since last summer. Actually, I told her the arbor was incidental: the four holes for its legs were the real gift! Between rocks, a six-inch layer of concrete rubble, and tree roots, they took me nearly three hours to dig.
